San Jose Roll Call

A Roller Skate Community Revolution

Our mission and purpose

SJ Roll Call is a roller skate community advocacy movement creating safe, accessible, and properly funded rollerskating spaces and programming in San Jose and beyond.

We aim to normalize rollerskating as a beneficial form of recreation for all ages and identities.

Our values

Quad-first

We prioritize roller skates as the most vulnerable of all wheeled recreation.

Activism

We actively use our voice and platform to amplify on behalf of those in need.

Culture

We are always mindful of skate culture’s history; past, present, and future.

Community

We do it for the people. Always grass roots, people before business, and community first.

Safety

Safety first. We will never settle for less than the safest option.

Education

Roller skating is about teaching and learning as a way to build community.

Why roller skating?

What most might see as a cute casual activity, roller skating is a community-building activity rooted in Black history and anti-racism. Roller skating is an underrepresented form of recreation that helps skaters build skill, friendship, and wellness for the soul and body.

Roller skaters span all ages and identities, but roller skating is dominated by some of the most marginalized and vulnerable communities, including: the Black community, LGBTQIA+ skaters, female-identifying skaters, and OG's (skaters ages 70+).

San Jose Roll Call believes roller skating (and the unique demographic of roller skaters that come with it) are worth investing in, and we are leading by example.
